Last August I became addicted to the game Candy Crush after a coworker introduced it to me. I loved the game - the levels are quick and can be played at any time. Candy Crush was also very entertaining during breaks at work. Matt never understood my fascination with it, and overtime became annoyed with how much I played it. I tried to kick the habit, but I only seemed to put the game away when I was out of lives - I refused to pay for more. Recently, a friend from PLU posted the following article about how King.com (the company that owns Candy Crush) was fighting a legal battle to patent the game, while also putting an independent game developer out of business who created a very similar game called Candy Swipe two years earlier.
Isn't that an interesting comparison? Snopes looked into the issue and has mixed reviews, but overall it appears that King.com is a greedy company focused on eliminating their competition. As much as I loved the game, my values wouldn't let me support the company any longer. Hence, I deleted Candy crush off of my phone and facebook account (and I would encourage you to do the same as well!) Plus, I have to admit, it's nice not having the distraction anymore. Matt certainly appreciates it :) Now I just need to figure out how to stop the candy crush facebook requests...
